Gurugram. The appeal of the corporation challenging the lower court’s decision in the case of electricity theft was heard in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Chauhan. The court, while upholding the order of the lower court, ordered the Electricity Corporation to pay the fine amount deposited by the consumer at an interest rate of 6 percent.

On 28 September 2016, some people from the Electricity Corporation came to the house of Raghuveer, a resident of village Tighra, and said that a regular investigation is being done. He was called to the Sun City Sub Division office on 3 October 2016 and a fine of Rs 2 lakh 46 thousand 029 was imposed on him, accusing him of electricity theft by bypassing the meter. He also pleaded with the officials of the Electricity Corporation, but no hearing took place. Fearing that the electricity connection might be cut, the consumer deposited the entire fine amount. After that, the consumer filed a case against the Electricity Corporation in the court on 24 October 2016. The court of the then civil judge Antarpreet Singh, while hearing the case, found the case of power theft to be false and ordered the corporation to return the fine amount deposited with 6 percent interest rate. The electricity corporation appealed the lower court’s order in the District and Sessions Court on 8 April 2019. Hearing this, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Chauhan rejected the appeal. The electricity corporation was ordered to follow the lower court’s order. The lawyer says that due to mental harassment, the consumer is preparing to file a defamation case against the officials of the electricity corporation.
