A plan to extend the Old Gurugram Metro to Gurugram Railway Station has been finalized. RITES has submitted its report to Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL). The project will cost approximately ₹454 crore. GMRL will submit this extension to the Haryana government and the Ministry of Urban Housing for approval.
GMRL plans to develop a 28.5 km long metro route under the Old Gurugram Metro. It will include 27 stations. A station is proposed in Sector 5 under this project. To increase ridership, discussions were held regarding extending the Old Gurugram Metro to the railway station. Following this, GMRL entrusted RITES with the responsibility of preparing a cost estimate report.
RITES conducted a survey and determined that a 1.80 km long metro track will be built. Construction of the metro station at the railway station will require 1069 square meters of land. This includes 419 square meters of Haryana government land, 446 square meters of private land, and 204 square meters of Railway Department land. This land is required for the construction of entry and exit gates. Additionally, 605 square meters of land is required at Sector 5 Metro Station. The construction of escalators at the Gurugram Railway Metro Station will cost approximately ₹12.70 crore.
A railway station is coming to the Bhondsi route: The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has also planned a metro route from Bhondsi to the railway station. The metro is proposed on this route. Although HMRTC has assigned the responsibility of preparing the DPR for this route to RITES, it will take time. According to the new plan, the metro will be constructed from Bhondsi to Sector 5. An interchange station will be built in Sector 5. Under the Old Gurugram Metro project, the metro will be extended from Sector 5 to the railway station.
Pillar excavation underway
Construction work has begun on the ground under the first phase of the Old Gurugram Metro. Pillar excavation is underway near the traffic signal in Sector 31. Meanwhile, the company constructing the metro has begun construction of a casting yard on 25 acres of land in Transport Nagar, Sector 33. This land is being fenced. The metro construction company has set up its office on this land. Metro construction will accelerate next month. The first phase of construction will cost ₹1,277 crore (approximately $1.2 billion). It is expected that Metro construction will pick up pace very soon.
