Gurugram’s municipal corporation (MCG) has received final approval for a Rs 607 crore plan to collect waste from every household. The project, part of an updated waste management scheme, aims to cover all areas, lanes, and neighborhoods with 700 new vehicles. Officials hope this will eliminate illegal dumping and transform the city’s cleanliness status.
The new system mandates hiring experienced companies with prior experience in waste management across NMC-commissioned areas from 2018 to 2025. This change follows six revisions to the tender process since July 2024, addressing past failures when the eco-friendly firm “Eco Green” withdrew in June 2024. The process now allows broader participation to ensure transparency.
The project requires 100% waste collection from all households. Previously, garbage accumulation in slums and main roads caused health risks. Officials claim the updated tender process will improve efficiency. The NMC chairman, Pradeep Dahiya, stated the revised tender is underway, and a permanent solution is expected soon.
This follows two years of declining cleanliness ranks due to poor waste management. The new rules allow companies with relevant experience to bid, a shift from the earlier focus on metro cities. Adjustments to eligibility criteria aim to boost competition and attract better agencies.
The NMC plans to initiate the tender process shortly, with public announcements expected soon. The goal is to provide Gurugram residents with a reliable, modern waste collection system.
