The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Monday. Forecasts indicate that Delhi could see up to 64 mm of rainfall during this period. This weather shift comes after the city recorded its first moderate rainfall since the onset of the monsoon. But the impact of this rain was uneven across different areas.
Some regions experienced heavy showers. Others only saw light drizzling. It’s a mixed bag of weather for residents. Rain started appearing after 10:30 AM in a few spells. This provided a temporary break from the stifling humidity that had made life difficult for people earlier in the morning.
The temperature data tells a specific story. The maximum temperature stood at 35.6 degrees, which is 2 degrees above the normal mark. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature was 29.2 degrees. This figure was 1.3 degrees higher than usual.
Different parts of the city saw varying rainfall amounts between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Palam recorded the highest amount at 16.4 mm. The Ridge followed with 10.2 mm. Aya Nagar saw 8.2 mm, while Safdarjung recorded 6.4 mm. Lodhi Road had the least rain at 1.6 mm. Highs in these areas ranged from 35.6 degrees in Aya Nagar to 37 degrees at Lodhi Road.
Monday’s forecast predicts light to moderate rain during the morning, afternoon, and late afternoon hours. Along with the rain, storms are expected. This is why the orange alert remains active. The weather shift will likely pull the maximum temperature down to 32 degrees. The minimum could drop to 27 degrees.
Rain will continue. This is certain.
The pattern is expected to persist into next week. From 7 July to 10 July, the city will likely see more light rain and storms. During this four-day window, the maximum temperature is projected to stay between 31 and 33 degrees. The minimum temperature is expected to fluctuate between 24 and 27 degrees. This cooling trend provides a reprieve from the heat that dominated the early monsoon period.
The high humidity earlier in the day had created uncomfortable conditions for the public. The arrival of rain after 10:30 AM changed the atmosphere. And while the rain was not uniform, the overall effect helped lower the oppressive heat. The orange alert serves as a warning for the coming 24 hours as the city prepares for heavier downpours and potential wind gusts.
Residents can expect a significant dip in temperature by Monday evening. The shift from 35.6 degrees to a predicted 32 degrees marks a noticeable change in the local climate. These fluctuations are typical as monsoon systems move across the plains. The period between 7 July and 10 July will be critical for maintaining this cooler temperature range.
The current weather pattern indicates a period of instability. With the orange alert in place, the probability of storms remains high. This follows the initial moderate rainfall that hit several pockets of the city. The city’s temperature will likely remain below the normal threshold for the next few days.
The forecasted rain and storms will likely continue through 10 July.
