The victory came at a crucial stage of the season for Delhi, who had entered the contest needing wins to remain in playoff contention. Punjab, meanwhile, slumped to a fourth consecutive defeat after once looking like one of the strongest teams in the competition.
The match began explosively, with Punjab posting 210/5 thanks to an outstanding opening stand. Priyansh Arya smashed an unbeaten 56 off just 33 deliveries, hammering six towering sixes while dismantling the DC pace attack early. He particularly targeted Mitchell Starc, scoring 22 runs off one over. Despite conceding 51 runs in the first three overs, Delhi’s bowlers regrouped, with young pacer Auqib Nabi playing a key role in slowing the momentum.
At 107/2 after 10 overs, Punjab appeared poised for a massive total, but Delhi’s bowlers tightened their lines effectively.
