Delhi Capitals kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a thrilling three-wicket win over Punjab Kings in a high-scoring encounter at Dharamsala on Monday.
Chasing a formidable target of 211, Delhi Capitals successfully completed the highest successful run chase at the HPCA Stadium, reaching the target in just 19 overs.
Davie Miller and captain Axar Patel were the architects of the chase, with both players smashing half-centuries. Patel scored 56 off just 30 balls while Miller remained unbeaten on 51 from 28 deliveries as the duo added 64 runs in 34 balls to dramatically shift momentum in Delhi’s favor.
Punjab Kings had earlier posted 210/5 with opener Priyansh Arya leading the charge. The left-hander hammered 56 off 33 deliveries, including six towering sixes, taking apart the Delhi pace attack early in his innings. However, Delhi’s bowlers fought back strongly after the initial onslaught.
Young pacer Auqib Nabi played a crucial role in containing the run flow, while debutant Madhav Tiwari claimed his maiden IPL wicket by dismissing Arya. Despite Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 59 off 36 balls and Cooper Connolly’s 38 from 27, Punjab couldn’t maintain their explosive start.
Delhi’s chase began poorly as they lost three wickets in the powerplay, including KL Rahul and Abishek Porel. With the score at 74/4 and Tristan Stubbs run out, the odds seemed stacked against them before Patel and Miller launched their counteroffensive.
The victory provides a significant boost to Delhi’s playoff aspirations, while Punjab Kings continue their slide with a fourth consecutive defeat.
