On 17 June 2026, Sucharita Saha, a resident of Sector‑75 in Noida, lodged a formal complaint at the Sector‑113 police station alleging that her husband, Harvinder Chauhan, tried to kill her during their honeymoon. The incident reportedly occurred on 9 May 2026 at a hotel in Darjeeling, where Chauhan allegedly pushed his wife down a flight of stairs, causing serious injuries to both knees, as well as wounds to her head and abdomen.
According to the complaint, the couple had married on 30 April 2026 and immediately traveled to Sikkim and Darjeeling for their honeymoon. The alleged assault took place at a hotel staircase in Darjeeling, after which Saha fell and sustained the injuries mentioned above. She returned to Noida on 10 May 2026. Upon her return, she says Chauhan smashed her mobile phone on the ground, kicked her in the stomach, and repeatedly beat her with slaps and punches. She also claims Chauhan threatened to kill her if she approached the police.
Following the alleged attacks in Noida, Chauhan reportedly left the marital home on 11 May 2026 and went to his father’s residence. Saha sought medical attention for her injuries and, after undergoing treatment, filed the FIR on 17 June 2026. The police recorded her statement, noting that the violence began the day after the wedding and continued through verbal abuse, physical assault and threats.
The investigating officers have registered a case under sections relating to assault, criminal intimidation and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint has been forwarded to the appropriate judicial authority for further action, and a formal investigation is now underway.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence in the region, especially in cases involving newlyweds. Local women’s rights groups have repeatedly called for stronger enforcement of protection laws and faster police response to domestic abuse complaints. While the investigation is in its early stages, authorities have assured that the case will be pursued rigorously, and that any evidence of attempted homicide or assault will be thoroughly examined.
Police have advised the victim to remain under protection and have instructed her to cooperate with forensic examinations and any further inquiries. The next procedural step involves forwarding the charge sheet to the court, after which the accused may be detained pending trial.
