Delhi Police filed a 900-page charge sheet on Thursday in a rape-murder case from southeast Delhi. The victim was the 22-year-old daughter of an IRS officer. A 23-year-old accused now faces the charges.
And the document names more than 70 witnesses. It also carries DNA and forensic reports. The accused is in judicial custody at the moment.
He had worked earlier as a domestic helper for the same family. They dismissed him nearly two months before the crime over poor conduct and money irregularities. He was deep in debt from a gambling habit and needed cash, which is unusual for a former household staffer turned killer. Police say the motive was robbery and revenge.
The charge sheet states he used a spare key hidden outside for the helper. The officer and his wife had gone to the gym as usual around 6:30 am on 22 April. The accused knew the family routine and that the daughter would be home alone studying. He slipped inside with the second key.
What followed was roughly half an hour of brutality. He struck her head with a heavy object, then raped her, causing serious injuries to private parts. Finally, he choked her with a mobile phone charging cable. He dragged the body to a lower room to open the safe with her fingerprint. After ransacking the apartment, he filled a backpack with cash and valuables.
CCTV caught him leaving at 7:22 am with the bag. A security guard and another person questioned him on the way out. He gave evasive replies and left. Both are now witnesses. Police arrested him within 12 hours using footage and technical evidence.
But the trail reached beyond Delhi. Investigators found he had raped a woman in Alwar, Rajasthan, the night before. He reached Delhi around 5 am on 22 April after hitching a ride in an empty ambulance. That detail widens the probe’s geography.
The court will now examine the charge sheet and evidence. Next hearings will decide how the trial proceeds against the 23-year-old in judicial custody.
