Families in these localities report that the usual municipal water service has become unreliable, forcing them to rely on tanker deliveries for everyday needs such as drinking, cooking, and cleaning. In some neighborhoods, the water supply has been reduced to a fraction of normal levels, while others are left waiting for tanker arrivals that can be days apart.
The root of the problem, according to officials from the Delhi Jal Board, lies in shortages of raw water at the Wajirabad and Chandraval treatment plants. These deficits have truncated production, leading to a noticeable decline in distribution across the city.
Patel Nagar, Karol Bagh, and Rajendra Nagar have emerged as the most affected areas, with frequent complaints lodged about the insufficient water flow. Residents are compelled to source water from external tanks or alternative channels, often spending hours in queues, which disrupts their daily routines and, in many cases, their livelihoods as they must pause work to secure water.
