The 24‑year‑old labourer in Noida’s Jewar area was rescued from a suicide attempt after Meta’s social‑media alert reached the local police. He had joined a woman in a relationship, consumed an excessive amount of sleeping pills following her rejection of his marriage proposal, and posted a video on Instagram stating, “This is my last video, who knows whether I will be there or not.”

According to a senior police officer, the alert arrived at 12.12 a.m. on Friday via email to the police’s social media centre at the Directorate General of Police headquarters. The information and location were immediately forwarded to the media cell of the Gautam Budh Nagar commissionerate and to Commissioner Lakshmi Singh.

Police at Jewar station reached the youth’s home within five minutes. Officers found him unconscious on his bed, woke his father, and, with family and neighbours, transported him to the nearest hospital. He was later discharged.

The officer said the young man explained that he had fallen in love with the woman, and her rejection had caused extreme distress, leading to the attempted self‑harm. The incident was handled under the “Crisis Intervention Collaboration 2022” between Meta and Uttar Pradesh Police.

The event highlights the role of social‑media platforms in early intervention and the importance of timely police response in preventing self‑harm incidents.
