The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh rainfall alert for 17 districts across Haryana, signaling an end to the intense heatwave that has been sweeping the region. Among the districts placed under warning are Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat, Gurugram, and Faridabad, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated between July 28 and 29.
A yellow alert has already been declared for Panchkula and Yamunanagar on Monday, July 28, with surrounding areas also expected to receive significant rainfall. The weather department indicated that the monsoon system is likely to strengthen over the coming days, bringing much-needed respite to residents who have been enduring scorching temperatures for weeks.
But the most severe warnings have been issued for July 28 and 29, when an orange alert will be in effect for six key districts: Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, and Panipat. These areas are bracing for very heavy precipitation, which could lead to waterlogging and travel disruptions. The IMD advised residents to stay updated with local advisories during this period.
And while the focus is currently on the northern and central parts of Haryana, several other districts—including Kaithal, Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Charkhi Dadri, Mahendergarh, Rewari, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, and Mewat—are under a yellow alert from Tuesday, July 29, through Wednesday, July 30. These regions can expect moderate to heavy showers, though not as intense as those forecast for the orange alert zones.
It’s worth noting that districts like Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Jind, and Bhawaniganj have not been placed under any formal alert. However, the IMD mentioned that light to moderate rainfall might still occur in these areas, offering some relief even without an official warning.
The onset of this rainfall pattern comes as a welcome change for millions of people in Haryana, who have been struggling with temperatures soaring above 45°C for several consecutive days. Power outages, dehydration cases, and heatstroke incidents have reportedly increased in urban centers like Gurugram and Faridabad over the past week.
With the monsoon trough expected to remain active, the weather department has urged farmers and residents in low-lying areas to take precautions. Drainage systems in cities like Gurugram, which often face waterlogging during heavy spells, are likely to be put to the test once again.
The next few days will be critical in determining how well the state’s infrastructure copes with the anticipated rainfall, especially in high-density urban zones. For now, residents are advised to carry umbrellas, avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours, and monitor updates from local authorities.
As the IMD continues to track the evolving weather situation, further alerts may be issued depending on the intensity and spread of the incoming monsoon systems.
