Passengers arriving at Noida International Airport on June 15 will be welcomed by two significant artworks by Padma Shri artist Paresh Maity, designed to bring a sense of soul and immersion to the modern architecture of steel and glass.

The first installation, titled ‘Jagriti’ (meaning awakening), is a massive painting measuring 8 by 100 feet. Completed in October 2025, the work consists of six panels based on Sadanga, the classical theory of the six limbs of art. Each panel represents a key cultural or religious site in Uttar Pradesh: the temples and ghats of Varanasi, Sarnath where Gautam Buddha gave his first sermon, the Taj Mahal in Agra at sunrise, the Kusum Sarovar in Mathura-Vrindavan, Ayodhya (the birthplace of Lord Ram), and the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.

Maity, a 61-year-old native of Tamluk, West Bengal, spent nearly two years traveling and researching these six locations. He noted that the painting is unified by the light of early morning, reflecting India’s civilisational legacy and spiritual awakening.

The second work, titled ‘Mystic Abode,’ is a large-scale installation featuring 18 panels and over 8,500 brass bells. While ‘Jagriti’ is a panoramic celebration, ‘Mystic Abode’ is designed to be more intimate, using the symbolism of the bell—common in Buddhist and Hindu traditions—to offer visitors a moment of peace and sensory engagement amidst the rush of travel.

With a career spanning five decades and 90 solo exhibitions globally, Maity was commissioned nearly two years ago to create these immersive pieces for the state’s newest aviation gateway.
