Officials made a big revelation
After the fire at Bandhwadi Landfill site on Tuesday, a negligence of the corporation officials has been revealed. Even after a year, the fire action plan was not implemented to stop the incidents of arson at Bandhwadi landfill site. The Joint Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to the negligent officer and sought a reply. It was asked in the notice why even after the Fire Action Plan was approved in the year 2022, it has not been implemented till date. Apart from asking the reason for the fire that took place on Tuesday, information has also been sought about what measures have been taken to take precautions.
Fire action plan was approved in 2022
Let us tell you that NGT had also reprimanded the corporation officials two years ago regarding the incidents of arson taking place at Bandhwadi landfill site. After this, a committee was formed by the NGT under the supervision of the Chairman of Haryana State Pollution Control Board. Chief Secretaries of Municipal Corporation, Pollution Control Board, GMDA, Urban Local Bodies Department were also included in the committee. In the meeting of the committee constituted on October 29, 2022, it was decided that a fire system should be installed at the Bandhwadi landfill site to prevent incidents of arson. It was decided to install CCTV cameras, install methane gas detectors, install a temperature measuring plant and implement a fire action plan.
After the approval of the fire action plan by the fire department, the corporation officials had told the committee that they will float tenders in the month of February to implement the fire action plan and install all types of equipment for fire prevention and by the end of March 2023. Till now, the work of implementing the fire action plan to prevent fire at the Bandhwadi landfill site will start at the ground level, but even after more than a year has passed, no work has been done at the ground level by the corporation.
The Joint Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation has written a letter to the Superintending Engineer directing him to investigate the incident of arson that took place on Tuesday. He said that an investigation should be conducted as to how such a major fire incident took place at the Bandhwadi landfill site and instructions have been given to implement the Fire Action Plan at the Bandhwadi site with immediate effect.
