Fire breaks out at north Delhi PG, residents evacuated safely

On 12 June 2026, a fire broke out on the fourth floor of a paying‑guest (PG) accommodation located in the L‑Block area of Subzi Mandi, north Delhi, near Ghanta Ghar. The incident was reported to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) at 4:39 pm.

Two fire tenders and a water bowser were dispatched to the scene under the supervision of Station Officer Giriraj. The blaze started among domestic items on the fourth floor of the four‑storey Kedar Building, which houses three rooms per floor, a kitchen and a common living area. Each room is occupied by one to two students.

Three students staying on the top floor managed to evacuate themselves, while occupants on the lower floors were assisted by fire‑fighters and moved to safety. No injuries were reported.

Fire‑fighters faced access challenges due to narrow lanes, forcing them to park the fire engines at a distance and stretch hoses through congested by‑lanes. Because the building lacks balconies, the teams had to combat the fire from the staircase.

The fire was brought under control by 7:00 pm. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.

Authorities have advised residents of similar PG facilities to ensure compliance with fire safety norms and to keep evacuation routes clear.
