Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received a distress call at 4:39 pm on 12 June 2026 reporting a blaze at the Kedar Building in the L‑Block area, near Ghanta Ghar, Subzi Mandi, north Delhi.
The four‑storey structure, used as a paying‑guest (PG) facility, has three rooms on each floor along with a kitchen and a common living area. The fire broke out among domestic items on the fourth floor. Each room typically houses one to two students.
Fire‑tenders and a water bowser were dispatched under the supervision of Station Officer Giriraj. Due to narrow lanes, the fire engines could only park at a distance, forcing crews to stretch hoses through congested by‑lanes and fight the fire from the staircase, as the building lacks balconies.
All occupants were evacuated safely. The three students on the top floor escaped in time, and residents on lower floors were moved out before the situation escalated.
The fire was brought under control by 7:00 pm. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
DFS officials highlighted the challenges posed by cramped access routes and urged PG operators to ensure compliance with fire‑safety norms.
