A 51-year-old man from Delhi caused a stir in Gurugram’s Cyber City when he masqueraded as a “fake Police SP” to restore electricity to his wife’s clothing store at Sector 29’s Mega Mall. Karan Kumar Sujsi, the culprit, impersonated an SP from Himachal Pradesh and contacted the local police station’s official mobile number, demanding immediate power restoration for the shop located in the mall.
The ordeal began when mall authorities disconnected electricity to a woman’s clothing shop for an unspecified reason. Angry with the power cut, the woman’s husband devised a dangerous ruse. Instead of approaching mall management through proper channels, he called the Sector 29 police station directly, introducing himself as “SP Chandan Singh” from Himachal Pradesh police. His raspy voice and authoritative demands immediately raised suspicion among the attending officer.
And the police quickly moved to verify the claims. A call handler recognized the unusual demand and immediately alerted senior officials. Within minutes, a police team raided the area and confronted the suspect. Upon closer scrutiny, the man’s fabricated identity crumbled completely. He wasn’t an IPS officer from any state, but simply a frustrated customer trying to bypass standard procedures.
But the deception didn’t end there. The impostor tried to leverage fake connections with higher-ranking officials, claiming proximity to DGMP level officers to pressure the investigating team. His theatrics lasted only until actual police records contradicted his story completely. No such SP named Chandan Singh exists in Himachal Pradesh’s personnel files, and no such transfer was in progress. The man’s phone records simply didn’t match any legitimate police communication patterns.
The arrested individual faced charges under sections related to false representation and obstruction of official duties. Police registered an FIR, and interrogators are examining whether this wasn’t an isolated incident. Authorities haven’t ruled out similar attempts in other commercial establishments. The case highlights how desperation can drive people to dangerous impersonations, especially when dealing with bureaucratic processes.
Following his arrest, detectives haven’t ruled out similar incidents elsewhere. The suspect reportedly hasn’t disclosed whether he’d attempted comparable impersonation tactics in other situations. Investigators are conducting thorough record checks to identify any pattern of such fraudulent activity prior to this arrest.
