Haryana’s post-poll voter list revision drive, the Sir Chuntranjan Interrogation (SIR), faced a deadline extension to July 24, 2026, affecting over 33 lakh voter entries across the state. Gurugram’s four assembly segments are among those seeing significant voter removals. The Election Commission of India’s special verification program, aimed at finalizing accurate voter rolls, triggered this comprehensive review.

SIR involves door-to-door verification by Basic Unit Development Officials (BLDOs) to identify discrepancies in voter rolls. These include deceased persons, individuals who shifted to other states, or those holding multiple voter cards. In Haryana alone, 33,36,31 suspicious voters were identified during the campaign. This unusual scrutiny extends to Gurugram, where millions could be excised from electoral rolls.

Haryana’s Chief Election Officer, S. Srinivasa, confirmed the verification process is underway to remove non-compliant entries. Originally set to conclude on Tuesday, July 14, the deadline was pushed back by 10 days. Gurugram’s District Collector Uttam Singh emphasized that matanchestres center rationalization would also complete by the revised timeline. District officials have instructed all voters with pending verifications to contact their local BLDOs for resolution.

The revised schedule includes voter list publication on July 31, with objections or claims accepted till August 30. A three-month period for dispute resolution runs from July 31 to September 28. Final publication of the voter list is set for October 3, 2026. Uttam Singh highlighted the democratic importance of accurate voter registration, urging public cooperation in the process.

Efforts to streamline voter rolls require strict adherence to timelines. Every applicant must ensure their name appears correctly in the electoral roll. The extended SIR deadline underscores the critical need for verification, particularly in densely populated urban areas like Gurugram. Delays could disrupt electoral planning and voting accessibility.

District officials have been directed to execute modified work schedules, ensuring all activities complete before the October 3 deadline. Public participation remains pivotal. Citizens with mismatched details must proactively engage BLDOs to rectify or confirm their inclusion. The process aims to eliminate errors, safeguarding electoral integrity ahead of future polls.
