Despite repeated warnings and fines, local truck and dumper drivers continue to park illegally along the expressway’s edge, prompting the Nune district administration and police to devise a robust enforcement campaign.
Authorities have clarified that the expressway will be treated as a strict ‘no‑parking zone’, and offenders will face severe consequences. Drivers who leave their heavy vehicles on the pavement will be identified within the next week, along with the villages to which they belong. After identification, police and administrative officials will meet representatives from those villages to issue a final warning.
If non‑compliance persists, the response will not stop at heavy fines. Vehicles will be seized outright, and legal action will be initiated against the drivers. The aim is to eliminate the practice that has led to numerous fatal incidents, especially during night hours or in foggy conditions when parked dumpers and trucks become deadly obstacles.
Last week alone, a high‑speed car collided with a parked dumper, killing four people instantly. As of May 2026, the Haryana segment of the expressway has recorded more than 1,750 accidents since February 2023, resulting in over 130 fatalities and more than 1,100 injuries.
The Nune police have emphasised that passenger safety is their top priority. “We will not tolerate illegal parking on the expressway at any cost,” the statement read. “We have begun the process of identifying offending drivers and their villages. Fines will no longer be the sole penalty; vehicle seizure and FIR filing will follow.” The statement also announced enhanced night patrolling from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. to drive accident numbers to zero.
Regular commuters on the expressway note that police activity has increased in recent days. However, they argue that a zero‑tolerance approach, especially between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., is essential for 24‑hour vigilance. Creating a culture of accountability among local drivers, they say, is the key to finally curbing the dangerous habit.
