A wife and her lover are in jail for allegedly using a venomous snake to kill her husband in Hastinapur. The dead man was 32-year-old Atul Kumar. Police say the act was planned so the two could live together.
And the location was Shakuntala Colony, not some remote forest. Atul was from Bhasuma’s Bhandora village originally. He ran Krishna Kids Play School in Hastinapur. His wife Damini taught at the same school. They had taken seven rounds of marriage vows seven years before the killing.
The couple lived in a rented house there with their two children. Damini told people she went to another room with the kids around 2 am on Thursday. She said she brought tea to Atul’s room at 6 am. He was lying under a sheet on a charpai. When she lifted the sheet, a venomous snake sat next to his body. Villagers beat the snake to death with sticks and locked it in a box.
But the death was not accepted as accident. Atul’s elder brother Kuldeep is a constable in the Noida police department. That detail made the family suspicious at first sight. They informed police right away. A post-mortem was done. Investigation then widened.
Police checked Damini’s statements and her mobile phone. The probe showed she had an affair with the school van driver, Tushar Payla. Both wanted Atul removed from their path. Rural SP Abhijeet Kumar explained the break in the case. He said, “Shuruaati poochhtaach mein hi aaropi driver Tushar Payla toot gaya aur usne apna jurm qubool kar liya. Tushar ne mana ki wahi bazaar se kisi sapere se paise dekar zehereele saanp khareedkar laya tha. Guruvaar ki raat jab Atul gahree neend mein so gaya, to Damini ki madad se us saanp ko Atul ke bistar par chhod diya gaya.”
That quote is the only direct admission cited by officers. Tushar said he bought the snake from a snake charmer in the market. Damini helped place it on the bed after Atul slept deeply. Police took both into custody. They are now probing where the snake came from and what was paid for it.
Worth noting, the pair married for love and ran a school together. Now both accused have been sent to jail. Police continue to examine how deep their roles were in the conspiracy. Next steps include tracing the snake purchase chain and filing formal charges.
