NCR Air Taxi Masterplan: Rooftops to Serve as Vertiports by 2030 for Delhi-Gurgaon Travel

Explore NCR Planning Board’s vision for air taxis taking off from rooftops, metro stations, and rail terminals by 2030. Learn how Droneports and eco-friendly electric vehicles will reshape commuting in Delhi-NCR.

Gurugram to witness air taxis soaring over traffic by 2030, with vertiports on rooftops, metro hubs, and airports. NCR Planning Board’s eco-friendly plan includes hydrogen fuel, surveillance systems, and emergency drone deliveries for medical crises.

NCR Planning Board has unveiled a transformative strategy to replace congested roads with aerial transport, positioning the region as a leader in urban mobility innovation. Air taxis—small electric or hydrogen-powered aircraft—will launch from rooftops of high-rises, metro stations, and railway terminals, drastically cutting ground travel time. Passengers could board an air taxi directly from office rooftops, skipping traffic bottlenecks entirely. The plan, set for full implementation by 2030, envisions every district headquarters equipped with vertiports, helipads, and drone-based infrastructure to support emergency services and courier networks.

This futuristic network extends beyond passenger use. Emergency medical supplies, disaster relief goods, and surveillance footage will rely on air corridors, enhancing national preparedness for crises like floods, fires, or pandemics. Police will monitor traffic and threats via drone, while cargo drones will slash delivery times from days to minutes. The board emphasized energy sustainability, with charging hubs and hydrogen refueling stations at every vertiport to power zero-emission fleets.

Current traffic challenges in Delhi-NCR, where motor vehicles number over 12 million, pressure urban planners to innovate. By 2030, the board aims to integrate air taxis into the national airspace, connecting cities like Delhi, Jaipur, and Noida through direct routes to international airports. These “sky highways” will divert cargo and medical charters from crowded airports, streamlining logistics.

Challenges remain, however. While prototypes are expected by 2028, regulatory approvals and airspace management require meticulous planning. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for deliveries depend on updated safety protocols to avoid collisions. Residents of Gurgaon and Delhi, plagued by daily commuting delays, await timelines. For now, the board’s shortlisted locations for vertiports—Gazri Super Highway, Signature Tower, and Rajasthan’s Morni Hills—raise questions about land acquisition and microclimate impacts on drone operations.

Local authorities warn that societal adaptation will determine success. “Adopting any business model is difficult. The quality of implementation will define the future,” said an official at Gurugram News Network, referencing land-use disputes over large parks and cultural sites that might host vertiports. Equity also remains unaddressed: how low-income neighborhoods will access air taxi subsidies versus private-pay premium services.

The NCR Planning Board’s draft cites international precedents, but critics note no mention of pilot programs or funding. Meanwhile, startups like Salaam India and Future Air Mobility, which tested drone delivery in Haryana in 2025, eyes. With electric vehicle registrations rising 20% annually, the board’s focus on hydrogen and electric fusion aligns with India’s “Make in India” initiative. Whether this vision becomes a multibillion-dollar infrastructure marvel or a bureaucratic casualty hinges on execution—as it always does with transit bets.

By October 2026, public consultations will begin to shape the plan. Until then, the buzz around air taxis in Gurugram, Jaipur, and beyond continues to rise faster than any helicopter blade.
