NEW DELHI – Delhi Police are set to conduct a psychological evaluation of the man arrested in connection with the brutal rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman in her southeast Delhi residence on Wednesday. The assessment, expected within the coming days, will delve into the accused’s mental state, behavioral patterns, and potential motivations behind the crime. Investigators believe this evaluation is crucial to the ongoing probe, given the man’s remarkably calm demeanor throughout interrogation and subsequent actions.
According to sources, the accused checked into a hotel in Dwarka, approximately 30 kilometers from the crime scene, just two hours after allegedly committing the offense. Staff at the hotel reported that he arrived at 9 am, stating he was exhausted from a journey from Rajasthan. He paid ₹1,000 for a single night’s stay, providing his details via an Aadhaar card registered in Rajasthan. The staff described him as appearing entirely normal, noting that his behavior didn’t suggest the gravity of his alleged actions. He reportedly told the receptionist that his uncle would arrive later to decide on the duration of his stay.
Police tracked the accused’s mobile phone location, leading them to the hotel at 4 pm. He was subsequently arrested. Investigators found his blood-soaked clothes at the crime scene and discovered the victim’s mobile phone discarded in a garbage bin in Garhi village. A potency test confirmed the presence of the accused’s DNA. Police recreated the crime scene to corroborate the sequence of events.
The accused initially intended to travel to Rewari in Haryana, but missed his train. He then took an autorickshaw to the hotel. Police have detained relatives and associates in Rajasthan, including the accused’s father, following an earlier incident of rape and assault in Alwar, just hours before the Delhi crime. The Alwar police had previously arrested the man for these offenses. Forensic analysis confirmed the presence of semen at the crime scene. And police are building a strong case against the accused, focusing on forensic evidence.
