The six‑storey multilevel parking constructed near Sadr Bazaar in Gurugram, with a total cost of ₹55.20 crore, was shut down after only five days of operation. The facility, which could accommodate 206 cars and 190 bikes across three underground levels, was locked on Wednesday following a failure by the responsible agency to provide a required bank guarantee. City authorities say that this non‑compliance has led to the temporary closure of the parking.
The structure also fell into dispute due to political negotiations. According to municipal officials, the closure stems from a “political tug‑of‑war” involving two BJP leaders over the opening ceremony of the parking. The state’s chief minister had inaugurated the multilevel parking on 30 December, but it never began operating for the public. The city corporation was unable to appoint an agency to manage its operation and maintenance for four months.
On 1 May, MLA Mukesh Sharma reportedly broke open a coconut to symbolically restart the parking, and a free parking scheme was announced for 15 days. However, the facility could not run smoothly for even five days before it was shut again on Wednesday.
Municipal officials claim that the construction agency, Amar Business, failed to deposit the ₹55 lakhs bank guarantee. Because of this, the agency was denied full operational permission. The officials state that once the necessary formalities are completed, the parking will be reopened.
