Gurgaon police have detained 13 Bangladeshi nationals who were allegedly residing in the city without valid documentation, officials confirmed on 16 June 2026. The detentions resulted from a special verification drive launched by the Crime Branch unit of Sector 39 under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Hitesh Yadav. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams conducted targeted checks at construction sites and slum settlements where suspected foreign nationals were believed to be staying.
During the operation, authorities verified the identities and citizenship status of numerous individuals and identified 13 persons as Bangladeshi nationals. Police also recovered documents linked to their Bangladeshi citizenship. According to officials, the detained individuals disclosed during questioning that they had entered India illegally through the Kaliaganj border with the assistance of agents. They had been living in Gurgaon while working as labourers.
The deportation process has been initiated, and the individuals will be sent back to Bangladesh after the completion of required legal formalities. This operation forms part of a broader campaign being conducted across the city to verify the identities and documents of people residing in slum settlements, rented accommodations, industrial areas, colonies, and hotels. Police stated that intensive verification and checking drives are underway at multiple locations simultaneously.
Police spokesman Sandeep Turan appealed to residents to inform authorities about any suspicious individual or foreign national residing illegally in their neighbourhood. He also urged citizens to ensure police verification of tenants, domestic helpers, employees, and workers engaged in hotels and commercial establishments. Officials emphasised that Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and residents should cooperate with the ongoing campaign, which is being conducted with national security and public safety as key priorities.
Authorities clarified that Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing legally in the country need not be concerned, adding that no innocent person would be harassed during the drive. Police also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone spreading false or misleading information regarding the verification campaign. The operation reflects heightened vigilance by law enforcement agencies to address concerns related to undocumented foreign nationals in the region.
