Noida: Meta’s swift notification to police reportedly saved the life of a 24‑year‑old labourer in the Jewar area after he attempted suicide.
The youth, who had taken an excessive dose of sleeping pills following a woman’s rejection of his marriage proposal, posted a video on Instagram stating, “This is my last video, who knows whether I will be there or not.”
A senior police officer confirmed that at 12:12 a.m. on Friday, an email alert was received by the social media centre at the headquarters of the Director General of Police from Meta. The information and location were immediately shared with the media cell of the commissionerate and with Gautam Budh Nagar police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh. Directions were then issued to officials in Jewar.
Within five minutes, police at Jewar station reached the youth’s home. They woke his father, informed him of the situation, and together entered the room where the man was found unconscious on his bed. Police, along with family members and neighbours, transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently discharged.
The officer added that the youth had confessed to police that he had fallen in love with the woman who rejected him, which precipitated his distress and subsequent attempt to end his life.
The incident is cited as an example of the Crisis Intervention Collaboration 2022, a partnership between Meta and Uttar Pradesh Police aimed at preventing such emergencies.
