In this series, Google has now banned two investment apps. According to the report, Gurugram Police had sent a notice to the nodal officer of Google asking him to remove these apps from the Play Store. Google has reportedly removed these apps from the Play Store as soon as it received the notice. The names of these banned apps are FHT and SS-Equitrade.
Greed for good returns on investment
SHO of Gurugram Cybercrime Police Station said that through these apps, fraudsters used to lure users with good returns on their investment. Investigation has found that the FHT app was downloaded by about 1.55 lakh users. SHO has appealed to the users not to transfer money to anyone in the name of investment without complete information. By doing this the risk of cyber fraud increases significantly.
More than 20 lakh apps were banned last year
A few days ago, Google said that it had stopped 22.8 lakh apps from being published on the Play Store in the year 2023. Similarly, in the year 2022, Google did not allow 14.3 lakh apps to be published on the Play Store. The company also revealed that it has banned 3.33 lakh dangerous developer accounts on the Play Store.
SDK providers will increase safety
The company said in its blog post that 2 lakh app submissions were rejected or re-reviewed for sensitive permissions such as using background location and SMS access. Google further said that it has joined hands with SDK (Software Development Kits) providers to secure the privacy of users at a larger level. 31 SDK providers will work to prevent access and sharing of sensitive data on more than 7,90,000 apps for the safety of users.
