Noida, Uttar Pradesh – On the morning of 23 June 2026, a severe fire broke out in the Rai Pur labor camp located in the jurisdiction of Noida’s Sector 126 police station. Initial reports point to a gas cylinder leak as the probable cause of the ignition.
According to the Chief Fire Officer of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Pradeep Kumar, the first call about the fire was received at approximately 06:20 a.m. The fire brigade, accompanied by police personnel, rushed to the site within minutes. The structure, described as a G+1 building, housed between 50 and 60 migrant workers who were residing there at the time.
Witnesses from the surrounding area recounted that the blaze spread rapidly after the leak, creating a “massive inferno” that threatened to engulf the entire camp. Despite the speed of the fire’s growth, the coordinated response from five fire tenders and police units managed to bring the flames under control within an hour of arrival.
All residents of the camp were evacuated safely. No fatalities or injuries were reported, and the fire was fully extinguished after a concerted one‑hour operation. The emergency teams also confirmed that no individuals were trapped inside the building when they arrived.
The incident follows a tragic fire in Lucknow a day earlier, which claimed the lives of 15 young men. That event prompted heightened alertness among fire‑fighting units across Uttar Pradesh, a factor that officials say contributed to the swift action in Noida.
Preliminary investigations conducted on site have identified a gas cylinder leak as the primary trigger for the fire. The leak caused the ignition of surrounding materials, resulting in extensive damage to personal belongings stored in the camp. However, structural damage to the building itself was limited due to the rapid containment.
Local authorities have launched a formal inquiry to determine the exact circumstances that led to the gas leak. Police and fire department officials are examining whether safety protocols for gas cylinder storage were followed and if any negligence contributed to the incident.
Residents of the Rai Pur village expressed relief that no lives were lost, and they praised the quick response of the fire brigade and police. “We were terrified when the fire started, but the rescuers acted fast and got everyone out safely,” one worker, who asked to remain unnamed, said.
The Noida Police Station and the Fire Department have assured the public that they will continue to monitor the site and enforce safety standards in similar labor accommodations. They also urged all employers and camp operators to conduct regular safety checks on gas equipment and to maintain clear evacuation routes.
As of the latest update, the fire has been declared fully extinguished, and the area is under police supervision while the investigation proceeds. No further casualties have been reported, and relief efforts are focused on providing temporary shelter and assistance to the displaced workers.
Authorities remind citizens that any suspected gas leaks should be reported immediately to avoid similar emergencies. The incident underscores the importance of strict adherence to safety regulations in densely populated labor settlements.
