On the inaugural day of commercial flights at Noida International Airport, numerous travelers relied on digital navigation tools to locate the new facility. Their reliance on mapping apps led them to an unexpected entry point, creating confusion and additional hardships.

Mapping platforms displayed the older Jewar toll plaza‑Sikandrabad road, which channels vehicles toward the cargo‑side approach near Kishorpur village. Security personnel at that point stopped the drivers, explaining that they had arrived at the wrong gate designated for cargo rather than passenger traffic.

The misdirection forced the affected passengers to reverse their route. They had to re‑enter the Yamuna Expressway, pay the toll at the Jewar plaza a second time, and then travel approximately ten kilometres back along the expressway before taking an underpass and covering another ten kilometres to reach the proper passenger‑access road that leads to the terminal.

The extra mileage resulted in higher fuel consumption, additional toll charges and valuable time lost before the scheduled departures. The inconvenience was heightened because the navigation systems had not been updated to reflect the newly inaugurated passenger corridor.

The passenger corridor is part of a 31‑kilometre link road that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing to connect the airport with the Delhi‑Faridabad‑Ballabhgarh‑Sohna stretch of the Delhi‑Mumbai Expressway. A 7‑kilometre segment of this link has already been completed and opened to traffic, providing a direct route from the Yamuna Expressway loop to the airport without requiring travelers from Noida or Delhi to cross a toll plaza.

Nevertheless, passengers originating from Agra, Mathura, Aligarh and even Jewar continue to need to pass through the Jewar toll plaza before reaching the airport, as the new corridor is designed primarily for north‑bound traffic from the national capital region.

In response to the mapping discrepancy, Christoph Schnellmann, vice‑chairperson of the Noida International Airport authority, confirmed that the airport operator is in discussions with Google to ensure the updated access route is reflected on Maps and made available to commuters at the earliest.

The problem emerged on the very first day of commercial operations, catching many first‑time airport users off guard. While the terminal itself handled flights and passenger services without disruption, reaching the terminal proved difficult for those who depended solely on online maps.
