New Delhi: Delhi Capitals received a major boost ahead of their IPL 2026 fixture against Rajasthan Royals, with bowling coach Munaf Patel confirming Mitchell Starc is available for selection after recovering from injury.

Patel stated that the Australian left-arm pacer will be considered for the May 1 clash at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, though the final playing XI decision will be made on the day of the match. Starc’s return marks a significant development for a Delhi bowling attack that has struggled for consistency this season.

The 33-year-old fast bowler was sidelined with shoulder and elbow issues and is poised to feature in his first competitive game since January. His inclusion could address Delhi’s powerplay bowling concerns, where they have often conceded excessive runs.

Bowling Focus Key to Tournament Success

Patel emphasized the importance of a strong bowling lineup in T20 cricket format. “A match can be won by batters, but a tournament is won by bowlers. If bowlers bowl well, you can win the tournament. Batters can win you a game, but without good bowling, you cannot win consistently,” he said.

Despite recent setbacks, including being bowled out for just 75 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Patel dismissed concerns about the team’s morale. “We were not nervous. We were playing with a different approach. The wicket was doing a bit, and they bowled well,” he clarified.

With three wins and four losses, Delhi finds itself in a must-win phase of the tournament. The team will need to counter Rajasthan’s in-form batting lineup featuring Yashasvi Jaiswal and teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Patel indicated minimal lineup changes for the crucial encounter. “There won’t be too many changes. We have experienced players. It’s not like you lose and start changing everything,” he concluded.
