A junior intelligence officer (JIO) with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) was arrested in Faridabad on Sunday by the Sector 30 crime branch for allegedly leaking confidential details of local businessmen to a gangster believed to be operating from the United States, police officials said Tuesday. The accused, identified as Sikandar, a resident of Mothuka village in Ballabgarh, was produced before a court on Tuesday, which sent him to 14 days’ judicial custody.

Police stated that Sikandar had shared information about Faridabad-based businessmen, including liquor contractors, realtors, and property dealers, with gangster Randeep Malik, a native of Panipat who is reportedly based in the U.S. Malik, a suspect in multiple criminal cases, is suspected to be a close associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The leaked data was used by Malik and his associates to initiate extortion demands against the targeted individuals.

The arrest followed an ongoing investigation into an extortion and organized crime case registered at Sector 8 police station. During the probe, authorities discovered that businessman Deepak Goyal, who had been arrested earlier in the same case, had asked Sikandar to forward details of the victims to foreign-based criminals. Upon receiving the information, Malik and his network contacted several businessmen in Faridabad and demanded ransom payments.

Police mentioned that during questioning, the accused confirmed that Goyal had pressured Sikandar to share the information. Investigators have also scratched the surface into the possibility of more individuals being involved in facilitating the operation. The case has now been escalated to probe whether additional businessmen were targeted and whether intelligence officials were involved in other cases of information leakage.

The Intelligence Bureau officer’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the security establishment, as it appears that an IB official may have misused their position to access sensitive information. Officials are currently examining the nature of the data shared and whether the businessmen were targeted due to their involvement in local political or economic networks.

This case highlights the dangers of information leaks within government institutions and the risks posed by foreign-based gangs. The investigation is ongoing, with police reviewing digital evidence such as phone records and emails to track the full scope of the alleged conspiracy.
