In the case of private hospitals, the government level health services are constantly lagging behind in the Millennium City which has become a medical hub. In the last ten years, infrastructure like roads, bridges, multi-storey buildings, malls have developed in Gurgaon, whereas government health facilities have lagged behind instead of developing. If we talk about private hospitals, a large number of patients come here for treatment not only from the country but also from abroad. It is a different matter that the local people have to face the lack of resources for treatment at the government level.
The government had claimed to demolish the building of the district civil hospital many years ago and convert it into a 200-bed hospital, but at present the hospital is operating in that hospital in Sector-10. The hospital in Sector 10 was built for the Badshahpur constituency. The city’s population of 30 lakh is now dependent on this only government district hospital. The building of the old district hospital has been demolished for the last several years. There is no buzz about the construction of a new building. Another part of 200 beds is being built behind the hospital in Sector 10, but it is incomplete for the last one and a half years.
On Tuesday morning, the condition of the district hospital was seen to confirm that the hospital of Gurugram is a hospital of a town. The expansion of the city and the increase in population have nothing to do with health services. The nurse of the emergency ward of the district hospital tells that about 300 patients come to the emergency every day. There are only 20 beds for admission here.
In such a situation, the dilemma of the doctors and nurses can be understood. No ordinary patient comes to the emergency of the hospital. Keeping double, triple patients on one bed is a compulsion. Be it the medicine counter in the OPD in the hospital, the registration counter, the OPD or the investigation… everywhere the patients and their attendants have no option but to wait in the scorching heat. People exhausted due to illness are getting sick in the heat while waiting for the prescription, doctor, medicine and admission.
80 deliveries daily, only 40 beds
60 to 80 deliveries take place daily in the district hospital. On an average, 20 of these deliveries are cesarean. The hospital has 24 hour delivery facility, but the number of beds is only half. There are only 40 beds in the gynecology ward. In such a situation, two pregnant women have to be admitted on one bed. The condition of the medical ward is even worse. The medical ward is in the 10-bed dengue patient ward. It is built in the basement. Mosquito nets are installed on 10 beds. Other patients are on the rest. There are 42 beds in this ward, but twice as many people come for admission every day.
200 children suffering from diarrhea are reaching the hospital every day
On Tuesday, a large number of people were seen waiting for their turn with their children outside the children’s and women’s OPD. By 12.30 pm, 120 children had been seen in the OPD. According to pediatrician Dr. Umesh Mehta, most children are coming to the hospital suffering from diarrhea. On an average, 190 to 200 children are coming suffering from diarrhea every day.
It is most important to protect children from the heat. Apart from this, it is also important to take care of hygiene, provide easily digestible food and sufficient drinks. On the other hand, 77 patients had got anti-rabies vaccine in the district hospital till 11.40 am on Tuesday. Ritu posted here told that till three months ago, 50 to 70 cases of dog bites used to come daily. These days 120 to 140 people are coming daily after being bitten by dogs.
There is less space but we cannot refuse any patient
Hospital manager Dr. Manish Rathi told that due to extreme heat, the hospital is not as crowded as it is on normal days. Right now only those people are coming who are more serious. These days an average of 2000 patients are coming to the hospital. Most of these patients are suffering from sore throat and infection, skin diseases, ENT and eye diseases.
The number of these patients has increased by 20 to 30 percent. The effort is to provide better services to everyone with the available resources. As far as hospital admission is concerned, only those cases come to government hospitals who are not able to get their health checked regularly. Most of the cases reach here after getting complicated. Despite the shortage of space in the hospital, no patient can be denied treatment.
