Gurugram. The Consumer Commission has ordered a compensation of Rs 45 thousand to the consumer for taking money for a carry bag while purchasing goods from Sector-55 Sodhis Super Market. This order has been given by Khushvinder Kaur, member of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
Rs 20 for two carry bags
The consumer had purchased goods from Sodhis Super Market thrice in a year. Sammanav Bhutani, resident of Sector-56, said in his complaint that he had gone to Sodhis Super Market located in Sector-55 to buy goods on 16 April 2021. He had purchased goods worth Rs 1730 for his home.
There he was charged Rs 20 for two carry bags. For this he had also sent a legal notice on 24 April. After this he went to Sodhis market on 5th November 2021. There he had purchased household items worth Rs 469. That time Rs 10 were taken from Sodhis Market. This time also he had sent a legal notice to the company.
Legal notice sent on taking money
He went for the third time on 26 November 2021 to buy items for the house. He had taken goods worth Rs 938. That time also he was charged Rs 10 for the carry bag. During the hearing of the case, it was argued on behalf of Sodhis Market that the money is refunded on returning the carry bag.
After hearing both the parties, the Commission ordered Sodhis Market to return Rs 40 taken from the complainant for the carry bag at the rate of nine percent interest. In case the complainant is troubled, a compensation of Rs 45 thousand should be given along with Rs 33 thousand for legal expenses.
