Gurugram man Ankit disguised as ‘Fraud Baba’ after killing wife Meenu and hiding with girlfriend Rajneet in Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh religious hub for nearly ten days before police nabbed them.

Police uncover how a Gurugram husband murdered his wife and transformed into a fake spiritual leader to evade capture. The shocking cover-up involved fake beard, religious attire and months of deception in Rishikesh.

Gurugram Man Kills Wife and Assumes False Religious Identity to Evade Police for Nearly Ten Days

Ankit, a resident of Gurugram’s Menasur area, murdered his wife Meenu with a gunshot less than 90 days after their marriage. He then traveled to Nepal with his girlfriend Rajneet for approximately 15 days before fleeing to Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh, where he disguised himself as a spiritual leader known as “Fraud Baba” to avoid capture.

The Gurugram couple had married in February 2026 after Ankit’s family objects to his relationship with Rajneet, who worked as a beauty parlor owner in Menasur. Meenu’s murder occurred on May 21 when Ankit lured her to Rajneet’s rented apartment under the pretense of meeting his girlfriend. Police recovered the body from the apartment’s bathroom, though details about the forensic evidence remain unclear.

Police Uncover elaborate Deception Scheme

Ankit and Rajneet spent nearly two weeks in Nepal enjoying themselves before financial constraints forced them to seek refuge in Rishikesh. Upon learning that police had obtained suspicious phone numbers linked to Ankit’s location, Gurugram’s Crime Branch deployed officers in plain clothes to the area. The investigation team conducted extensive surveillance, visiting dozens of religious centers, ashrams, and caves across the region for ten consecutive days.

The sting operation revealed Ankit’s transformation: he grew a long beard, applied tilak markings on his forehead, wore sacred threads and mala beads, and sat among religious gatherings while performing prayers to avoid detection. But his disguise couldn’t withstand police scrutiny.

Capture and Investigation Details

Neither man nor woman initially resembled their former selves. Rajneet abandoned her western clothing, opting for traditional salwar kameez while presenting herself as a devoted follower of the fake spiritual figure. Their integration into Rishikesh’s religious community was so thorough that observers couldn’t distinguish them from genuine practitioners until police confirmation arrived.

Investigators confirmed Ankit had been in a relationship with Rajneet for three years prior to marrying Meenu. Forced marriage into his new relationship following family pressure and dowry demands prompted the February 29 wedding to Meenu. The plan to eliminate his wife began immediately after, with Ankit carefully orchestrating the May 21 murder and disposing of the body before escaping with Rajneet.

Police Operations Continue

Both suspects remain in police custody under five-day judicial remand while investigators pursue efforts to recover the weapon used in the killing. The case exposes how modern criminals exploit religious and cultural spaces to hide from law enforcement, requiring unprecedented coordination between local and international authorities to track fugitives across borders.

The Menasur Crime Branch continues interrogating the suspects while analyzing digital evidence from their time in Nepal, pursuing leads that may reveal additional accomplices or premeditated elements beyond what has been publicly disclosed.
