A 32-year-old woman working at Birla Estates’ Worldmark office in Sector 65, Gurgaon, allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday. Her family claims she faced mental, physical, and financial harassment from her husband, Amit Singal, a chartered accountant.

The woman’s brother reported that she was assaulted by her husband and had informed him on April 27 about being beaten with belts. Police received information at 2pm on Wednesday about the incident at Worldmark’s Tower 3. By then, security had moved her to CK Birla Hospital, where she was declared dead. Her body was later taken to a government mortuary for autopsy.

Sector 65 police registered an FIR under sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS) against Amit Singal and his parents. The brother alleged his sister was not allowed to keep her annual salary of Rs 12 lakh, which was diverted to her husband. He also posted a video on social media seeking justice, stating she was harassed for caste differences and threatened with divorce after visiting her parents in Dehradun.

The brother told police he last spoke to her on Tuesday at 12:07 pm, but she did not show visible distress. However, a call informed the family of her suicide two hours later. Police said the family would be interrogated, and action would be taken if evidence emerges.

According to the complaint, the husband also taunted her over caste, and his mother-in-law supported him during physical abuse. The victim and husband belonged to different castes.
