Delhi has aligned 20 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) companies with the capital’s security grid, a move prompted by escalating student demonstrations. The Ministry of Home Affairs ordered the airlift from West Bengal on Tuesday night, following violent confrontations during the Cockroach Janta Party’s Sansad Chalo march. Each CRPF company is manned by about a hundred personnel, and the deployment aims to quell further unrest as Parliament sits on its monsoon session.
Earlier, the government had already supplied about 30 CRPF companies and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) to the Delhi Police. Those were meant to reinforce law and order amid protests by the CJP and the Congress during the current parliamentary term. The presence of these forces is a response to repeating incidences of violence in recent weeks.
Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, slammed the move in a post on X, echoing a journalist’s comment that the centre would station additional troops. He wrote, “What is the government planning to do? Was the students’ blood spilled by the Delhi Police and RAF on 20 July not enough?”. Dipke questioned the need for “more innocent students to bleed” as the protest at Jantar Mantar continued. CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka added that the agitation would persist until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned.
Congress members and CIVIL UP further heightened security demands, pushing for a swift deployment. The rapid move covered by an air transport from Kolkata underscores the urgency. The CRPF’s airlift schedule began at night, with buses waiting at the Delhi Police headquarters for arrival. The centre’s guidance insists that the extra security ensures the safe conduct of legislative sessions.
The sit‑in persists, with thousands gathering at Jantar Mantar. Volunteers have received food and supplies sent by sympathisers at the protest firefighter. The agitation over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations has entered its second month.
