Gurugram is among 13 districts in Haryana placed under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), effective from 19 July 2026. The warning covers a three-day wet spell that is expected to bring relief from the intense heat of recent days. Light showers may appear in parts of Gurugram on 19 July 2026, with heavier rain forecast for the following two days.

The heat had persisted for several days before the alert was issued. IMD’s update marks a shift in weather patterns across Haryana starting 19 July 2026. Temperatures are likely to drop as the rain begins. That is a welcome change for residents.

On 19 July 2026, the IMD issued a yellow alert for rain in Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar and Karnal. Gurugram and nearby areas will also feel the impact, though the department listed those four districts specifically for the day’s yellow alert. A fall in temperature is expected as cloud cover and precipitation arrive.

For 20 July 2026 and 21 July 2026, the IMD extended the yellow alert for heavy rain to Gurugram and several other districts. Thunder and lightning may accompany the downpour during this period. On 20 July 2026, the yellow alert includes Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Sonipat, Panipat, Gurugram and Faridabad. Panchkula, Ambala and Yamunanagar, however, were placed under an orange alert for heavy rain on that day, which is worth noting given the higher warning level.

The alert widened further on 21 July 2026. Beyond the districts already covered, the IMD added Jind, Rohtak and Jhajjar to the yellow alert list for heavy rainfall. Clouds are expected to burst across many parts of Haryana on that day. And the extension shows how quickly the system is moving across the state.

Residents in Gurugram should prepare for disrupted commutes over the next three days. The IMD’s alert remains in force through 21 July 2026, with the heaviest rainfall likely on 20 and 21 July 2026 across the 13 named districts.
