Gurugram news: Gurugram DC Ajay Kumar has issued an advisory in compliance with the instructions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). All private institutions and corporate offices in district Gurugram are advised to direct their employees to work from home from November 20 till further orders and, by doing so, assist in the effective implementation of GRAP measures aimed at maintaining and improving air quality in the region.
Pollution havoc in Gurugram
The Air Quality Index was recorded at 436 in Gurugram at 7 am on Tuesday. There was no relief from pollution even during the day and smog conditions persisted throughout the day. The temperature is continuously falling and the wind speed has also stopped.
In such a situation, pollution is not dispersing and is gathering at one place. Due to the ever-increasing pollution, the fourth phase of GRAP is applicable in the entire NCR. All types of construction work, burning of tandoor and coal in hotels and dhabas and all types of pollution causing activities are prohibited, but despite this the rules are being violated.
Sprinkling of water on roads is just a formality
Municipal Corporation, GMDA and other departments are doing a formality in sprinkling water on the roads. Dust flying from broken roads is increasing pollution. Dust is flying on Southern Peripheral Road, CPR to Manesar, Basai Road, Pataudi Road and Old Delhi Road.
In the name of cleaning the roads with mechanical sweeping machines, only the corporation’s bill is being increased. According to the Meteorological Department, relief from pollution can be obtained only after wind or rain.
A fine of three lakh three thousand rupees was imposed
On Tuesday, the corporation teams, while monitoring the area, have imposed a fine of three lakh three thousand rupees on 44 people who violated the GRAP rules. These include 27 challans for burning coal or wood in tandoor, 14 challans for construction and demolition despite the ban, one challan for garbage dumping, two challans for keeping or transporting construction material without covering and ten challans for doing other activities that increase pollution.
At the same time, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Gurugram Pradeep Kumar also visited various areas and inspected the cleanliness system. He also instructed the concerned officials to improve the cleanliness system in the area and ensure regular lifting of garbage.
Along with this, he said that strict monitoring should be kept on the activities banned under GRAP four and if any person does such activity, then he should be stopped immediately and challaned as per the rules.
