Good news for hockey players! Now players will soon be able to play hockey at Nehru Stadium

Gurugram latest news: Now players will be seen playing hockey in Nehru Stadium. An international level astroturf ground has been prepared at the Nehru Stadium located in Civil Lines at a cost of more than seven crores. District Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav took related information on Friday.

District Deputy Commissioner said that the work of installing astroturf in Nehru Stadium was being done for the last one year. Now it is completely ready. Final finishing is being done on it for playing. To protect it from waterlogging during rainy season, its height has been kept about two and a half feet above the ground. Deputy Director of Sports Department Giriraj Yadav gave information related to Astroturf. The Deputy Director said that this ground is 91.40 meters long and 55 meters wide. Six sprinklers have been installed in it.

These cover a distance of 45 to 50 metres. He said that the Astroturf field requires constant watering. For this, a water tank has been built near the field. The sprinklers are so powerful that the entire field can be sprinkled with water in 7 to 10 minutes. Sitting arrangements for about 35 to 40 players have been made in three directions of the field. A 15 feet iron mesh has been installed around it.

District Sports Officer Ramniwas said that earlier more than 150 hockey players used to practice here. At present only 80 players come for practice. This number is expected to increase due to Astroturf. During this, the Deputy Commissioner took feedback about sports facilities from the players present on the spot. After this, sports officials were instructed to prepare a sports plan for the year 2024-25. He said that officials should ensure that adequate equipment and coaches are available for the games.
